Fresh Cuts: June 17

Flower farming is farm more physical and demanding than I ever imagined--poppies and peonies need to be checked and cut every three or four hours.  Poor Ralph, who cuts nearly everything gets pretty wound up and cuts flowers in his sleep!  But then there are the quiet times, the day's harvest is done, all the little darlings are tucked away in the cooler, orders are filled and we walk the farm just to marvel. 

I had a quiet moment last Sunday, spent thigh high in poppies and bees.  Yards away the air was absolutely buzzing.  I counted as many as six bees in a single poppy and there were hundreds of poppies in bloom--hundreds of bees.  Pretty cool.

This week we are cutting a ton of perennials, so here goes:
