Buongiorno--beautiful morning at Bindweed

How can I begin to describe a calm spring morning at Bindweed--this photo goes a long way. But you must use your imagination to add in the scent of lilac, crab apples and choke cherries all in bloom, the air full of bird song--red wing black birds, robins, sparrows and finches--there, that's a bit more like it.  I take a deep breath and try to feel it all before picking up my work again.

The temperatures have been unusually high and things are exploding.  This week we are harvesting the last row of tulips--it is the row just above the bucket of tulips in the photo.  We have yellow, the Impression series in red, pink and salmon, "Spring Green" and the mango delight of "Dordogne".  We are cutting the last parrot tulips also, "Red Cap" and "Flaming Parrot".

Cerinthe

Cerinthe is all about its showy blue-green foliage.  The tiny deep violet bells are an accent to the lush jade leaves.

 We found these amazing Turkish sweet pea seeds available on line out of England and tried them out.  They are sweetly scented and gorgeous--very small.

What's Fresh May 21, 2012

The farm is alive--alive with bird song, bee hum and the snicker-snick of flower scissors.  Every time I turn around something is bursting into bloom!  I envy the bumble bee, fat and lazy, as she bumps around the new blooms, I am too old for this and we have just started.  And I swear, if FedEx brings one more shipment of plants I will think seriously about running away from home.

...so, here's what we have blooming at Bindweed this week.

(There are always a few stray tulips that pop up in the perennials and I just don't have the heart to pull them out.)

Mother's Day 2012

Thanks to all our loyal clients we had the best Mother's Day sales in Bindweed history.  We are still spinning!   The big truck was as full as we could load it.  The back was full...

but I also had buckets between the seats...

in front of the seat...

and on the seats, to Sun Valley...

and to Jackson.

No passengers or help on these trips, only flowers.

We bid a sweet farewell to the tulips.  We started the week with over 4000 stems and have maybe 30 stems left.  The beds are empty but never fear, RT has already placed our order for next spring...ah, farming.

The sad news is we have no more tulips...

but the tulips are sending their neighbors, the snaps, to cheer you and fill your bouquets.

We have tall vigorous white snaps...

 

and incredible Chantilly snaps in a variety of colors.
