Sweet pea starts January 9

 Outside it is below freezing, snow is falling like powdered sugar and the foothills, heck the road out front has disappeared in the storm...but inside green life goes on.  Earlier this month we started the first seedlings--sweet peas.  This has been the brightest January I can remember and it has really boosted the seedlings.

 These little guys have never been happier.  They really want to jump up and plant themselves in the greenhouse!  (LOL--wouldn't that be cool.)  But they need to hang on a few more days.

Not even a week later and the seedlings are really filling out.  They need to hold out for at least another week until we fire up the greenhouses.  They are cold cold cold right now allowing the tulips to have their proper sleep.  By Valentine's Day they will be a tropical paradise in the middle of frosty Idaho, full of seedlings and emerging tulip shoots.

Fresh Cuts: June 10

We are in the midst of a peony and poppy explosion, so I am a little late with this week's fresh cuts.

I did a little experiment--these poppies rode in the truck to Jackson and back last Wednesday.  I popped them in the cooler and then threw this bouquet together to take to yoga Thursday evening.  I took this photo an hour ago--it is Saturday morning and I am rushing to get this online!  I wanted you to see that poppies can make an excellent cut--these little babies look great after a lot of abuse you would not dream of.  I shipped 50 stems of the white poppy to Salt Lake City overnight--I'll let you know how they fared.

Did I mention peonies--yeah, in addition to the poppy explosion RT is out cutting peonies every 4 hours.  It's like having a newborn.  We have some new exciting varieties and I am as proud as a new parent.  We have white, coral, red/fuchsia and pink.
